With our big B’Raku event happening this Saturday, it seemed obvious to highlight a book on Raku.  Steve Branfman, author of Mastering Raku, has been a friend for many years.  He was our first workshop presenter back in 2002, and then returned for a second...

by Cindy Bracker | Aug 11, 2014 | Books, Featured, News, Products, Specials, Sales

Build Your Library: Functional Pottery by Robin Hopper

by Anne W | May 20, 2014 | Books, Featured, News, Products, Specials, Sales

The old axiom indicates that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.  Functional Pottery: Form and Aesthetic in Pots of Purpose is the exception to that rule.  Just by looking at the cover of this book, I knew that it was a “winner.”  The pitcher is a perfect...

Here at Bracker’s, we’re always on the lookout Here at Bracker’s, we’re always on the lookout for beautiful pieces, incredible artists, and amazing educational opportunities – and today we found them all wrapped up into one photo! The set of pieces (ltr: Lidded Jar, RBG Vase, Lidded Jar, Vase) was created by MN NICE program graduate Joy P. Newmann who focuses on altering wheel-thrown work to create functional pieces. During her time in the program, she built upon her background of education in Asian ceramic traditions, and much of her recent work involves stoneware bodies and gas reduction firings. The MN NICE program has a place for everyone; whether you’re interested in new techniques, want to build upon the education you already have, or just want to better understand the avenues you can take on your ceramic journey. With mentors and resources at your fingertips, this program seeks to help emerging artists succeed and find the next step in their ceramics career no matter what that may entail. Programs like this present amazing learning and growth opportunities for artists which is why Bracker’s fully supports the MN NICE program and sponsors a scholarship for it! Time is ticking away for the enrollment deadline, so we encourage any artist who is interested to check out the application requirements today and take advantage of this opportunity – applications are due by June 1!
