I promise that this will not end up being a “weather report”, but I am sincerely hoping for some days filled with sunshine. We all seem to smile more and are generally happier. February was, however, a great month here at Bracker’s. My oldest daughter, Anne M, celebrated a birthday on the 26th. Her favorite German Chocolate cake was enjoyed by the staff and any customers who happened to walk in the door.

On our Third Thursday, we had a special guest to celebrate a big event. The guest was our banker, Mary Grob. She brought a copy of the loan for the building, which we ceremoniously burned in a large ceramic platter (compliments of Alan Brummell). Bill’s dream from the early 90’s has been realized. Now we are planning our own dream – enlarging our warehouse. Exciting and daunting, but fun.

The Bracker women are working on a big announcement.…dare I say….an EARTH-shattering announcement….It’s SO big we can’t say much yet, but it will enable Bracker’s to serve our local clientele even better!  Speaking of service, we’re expanding our delivery service, and we’ve simplified our delivery fees. If you’re in our primary delivery zone (which basically covers Kansas City to Topeka – CLICK HERE for a map to see if you’re “in the zone”), delivery is $25.00 plus 2¢ a pound, AND we’ve lowered our delivery minimum to only 250#.

March Coming Attractions
On March 1st, we’ll have new Glaze of the Month specials to tempt you! Want a preview? Spectrum Rainforest, Amaco Albany Slip Brown and Mr. Marks’ Wax-On will be on special for the duration of March. Be sure to check the blog next week for all the details and images!

Next month’s Second Saturday artist will be Richard James. Read more here and be sure to mark your calendar for March 8, 2014. Stay posted to see if we’ll be broadcasting this event live via YouTube.

While you’re marking your calendars, Missouri Art teachers might want to circle March 13 – 15! David is excited to meet all of you at the Missouri Art Education Association Conference. The Bracker’s Table will have tons of information, some free samples and you may even hear a whisper with more information about our exciting announcement! Additionally, Dave will be presenting THREE sessions at the conference: Need a refresher course on Ceramics or want to better understand clay and glazes? Sign up for his Ceramics 101 session, Saturday morning from 8:00 am – 9:30 am. Want to better understand your kiln? Sign up for his Kilns 202 lecture, offered TWICE, first on Friday from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm and again on Saturday, immediately following Ceramics 101 from 9:45 am – 11:15 am.

On March 18 – 22, NCECA Conference-goers will want to check your conference packet for a free gift from Brackers, and be sure to download the NCECA App (if you’re reading this newsletter on your mobile device) and check out the Bracker’s Banner Ad and Background Image! Or use the NCECA Web App. The conference falls during the third week of the month, and since Cindy and Jeanette will both be in Milwaukee, Bracker’s will not be hosting a Third Thursday Open Studio that evening. But be on the lookout for both of them if you attend the NCECA conference.

Looking ahead a bit further to April, our Second Saturday will be our big annual Spring B’Raku event & potluck! Mark your calendar now for April 12. We will have some bisqued pots for sale, or bring your own bisqued work.  Be sure to use a grogged clay body!

February Event Recap
Second Saturday was a little different due to the week’s snowfall. We postponed our scheduled artist, Richard James, to appear on March 8th, but opened up the studio and had an impromptu demo by Mark Barta and LeRoy Grubbs while the handful of other people who braved the weather played with throwing and hand building and had fun in the studio.

Third Thursday had it’s biggest attendance yet while Cindy demonstrated using the MicroKiln with raku glazes. Watch the short video below to see what you missed.

During a recent price update, Anne M goofed and zeroed out the prices of a variety of items, conveniently scattered at random places throughout the website. (OOPS!) So this month she has been on a mission to discover various $0.00-priced items and fix them.
Along the way, she’s gotten distracted uploading a few new Kemper tool images (an ongoing project), adding a brand new Sunshine Yellow Mason Stain, which is an inclusion stain like the bright red & orange Mason Stains and stable and vivid even at Cone 10.
2014 Spring Workshop

Back in August, 2013, Eric Stearns was our featured Second Saturday Artist. We had a live webcast during his demo, which you can see above. Every single person who watched his demo begged us to invite Eric back for a more formal two-day workshop. How could we say no?

Our two-day workshop (June 7-8, 2014) with Eric Stearns will include his pierced and incised work and he will share how he makes double-walled pots. More information will be available in the next two weeks. Register by April 12 for $200. After that date, the price is $250. Our two-day workshops include lunch on both days. If you need a hotel, check this site for a list.
