During the week of March 18th, a mass exodus from all over the USA and beyond will occur, and Houston, TX will get a great influx of crazy people. Oops, did I say crazy people? I meant ceramic artists. If you’ve not yet been to an NCECA, drop what you’re doing and figure out how to get there. It’s life changing, honestly. The NCECA organization works for years for each individual conference. As I write this, NCECA is already in the early stages of planning for the 2016 conference, while all the basics are already in place for 2015, and although it’s still cold, things are starting to heat up in Milwaukee, which is the site of the 2014 conference. But back to Houston….The weather will be beautiful and the art will be plentiful. Everywhere you look in that city and the surrounding suburbs, you will be likely to see clay or clay people or people covered in clay….but isn’t that really all the same? Inside Houston’s George Brown Convention Center, you’ll find tons of programming including demonstrating artists, speakers, panels, breakout groups, and the massive Resource Hall, full of at least 60 vendor booths and over 100 non-profit exhibitors, plus my personal favourite, the Gallery Expo, where you can see some of the finest ceramics from artists around the country. This year, for the first time in several years, Bracker’s will be exhibiting there. Both of the Annes will be “Booth Babes” for the week while Cindy, with the assistance of Jeanette, will be seeing to her duties as Director-at-large of NCECA. Do stop by and say hi if you’re attending the conference! We look forward to seeing “all of y’all” in Texas!
