FUNDRAISING IDEAS (including grant writing)
In a perfect society, teachers wouldn’t have to write grants or put
their students through fundraising projects in order to buy the things
that they need. Unfortunately, things aren’t yet perfect and school
budgets are becoming increasingly tight. However, there are a lot of
great fundraising ideas for the arts that are also educational. One
great fundraising company is Art Prints Incorporated. I met the owner,
Mike Baker at the Missouri Art Education Association conference last
year. He’s a great guy and his company has really aimed to make
fundraising easy and applicable for art teachers. Rather than selling
food or gift wrap or fruit or something like that, students are selling
something truly interesting to them - Art! Not only that, the school
gets a great cut of the profits, far better than other fundraisers I’ve
seen - 1/2 the total! Each art print sells for $10.00, and the school
gets $5.00 for each. Additionally, there are student and teacher
incentives for high sales.

mention IR#479623 when you call Art Prints Inc. at (501) 248-2665. That
will let them know you found about them from Bracker’s Good Earth Clays.
It also gets you extra incentives here at our store!
Another great fundraising idea can be derived from the Clay Musical
Instruments Lesson in the Lesson Plans section. After the lesson is
over, take it one step further and turn it into a lesson on economics
(maybe with the math teacher or home economics teacher). You can cover
concepts of mass production, supply & demand, mark-up/profit margin etc.
and then sell the windchimes and whistles! Perhaps you can even
schedule a concert of clay instrument music (or make it a portion of an
already existing concert) then sell the instruments at the concert.
There are lots of possibilities!
