BOOKS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
As an elementary school teacher, you have the widest range of ages and
maturity levels of any teacher. The following books may be books you
should suggest for the library, or you may want to have them for your
own classroom so that you don.t have to worry about having them checked
out when you need them!
- The Potter by Caton & McAllum

A beautiful fiction story that students from Kindergarten to 6th Grade
would enjoy listening to. It would also be an excellent book for a
lesson that integrates literacy issues into your art program. You can
even make it a combined effort with the school Librarian! (More about

Geared for the elementary or junior high school teacher, the ideas in
this book could easily be adapted to any level.

Great book to use with kids and by kids. Covers all the basics along
with a very creative selection of projects and ideas. Both handbuilding
and throwing are covered. Info on setting up a workspace and tips on
effective teaching methods as well.
- Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

A perennial kid's favorite and Caldecot medalist. This book can be a
great inspiration for art projects and can also be a cooperative lesson
with the librarian for a school-wide literacy project (see Lesson Plans)
