TEACHER INFO

This area will be focused on information useful to teachers, especially those teaching K-12 in the public school system. Included will be:

So you might be wondering, who is writing all this stuff? Well, here's a little about me and this section:

I am Cindy Bracker, the youngest daughter of Anne and Bill Bracker, two potters whose production of Salt-Glaze Pottery somehow morphed into the supply business, thus creating Bracker's Good Earth Clays, Inc. I'm kind of 'the freak' of the family because quite honestly, I have no talent in the visual arts. My drawings are little better than stick figures and I can throw a pot that holds water, but it's not very pretty. I do have an eye for it. I see myself making beautiful pottery in my mind, but the link between my mind's eye and and my hands always results in an 'error 404 not found' (for those of you not computer savvy, that means it's broken). Anyway, I just received my degree from the University of Kansas in Music Education. Obviously, since I'm working at Bracker's, I'm not teaching. Why you may ask? Well, to make a long story short, the original plan when I started the degree program was to teach, but along the way, while working at Bracker's part time, I began to really enjoy what I do here. I did, however, want to finish my degree. I think a college degree is extremely important, not just for the classroom learning and achievement it indicates, but also for the other intangible assets it recognizes. Getting down off my soapbox now... So after I had made the decision to not teach, I made sure to make the most of my education in a way that would still be useful after college working here. My professors always talked about making a transfer. It was drilled into my head since I started the degree program. So, every piece of information I learned in class, every exercise, assignment, or test I had to do, I tried to transfer to ceramics or more general visual art education. So the topics you see here are directly related to what I learned about in school. I've also tried to gear this section to really work for teachers. I know how busy teachers are, and particularly those in the arts. I also know what kind of restrictions and expectations are being placed on teachers these days by school districts and states. Most of them are not what I call 'Art-Friendly.' This section will, hopefully, help you meet some of those requirements more easily. My hope for this section is that it will become a forum for teachers to share ideas for the benefit of the students nationwide. If you see something missing from this section, or would like to contribute information, please e-mail me at claygirl@brackers.com or call me toll-free (888) 822-1982. I truly hope this section of our site will be helpful. I rely on feedback to attain that goal.
