With precise detail, this video shows the fabrication of a top-loading soft firebrick kiln. From preparation of the foundation, layout of the floor, bricking of the walls, built-in shelf supports, burner port, use of target bricks  and construction of a liftable brick top, it also demonstrates the use of a homemade natural gas burner with a flexible fuel hose, snap-on fittings and a removable forced-air blower unit. Following instruction on the safe lighting of the burner, the building of a fiber blanket kiln within an expanded metal frame is explored as well as approaches to converting old electric kilns into gas fired raku kilns.
