From the historical traditions of pottery passing carefully
from parent to child, family has always been prevalent &
important in the clay community. When a new potter's hands
touch clay for the first time, they join a giant family of like-minded
pottery souls. We have a family reunion once a year called
NCECA. We vie for the attention of our elders and peers and
bicker from time to time like siblings. We cheer for each others'
triumphs. We welcome new clay-babies into our family with
open arms. We grieve together when one of us passes away...

On September 27th, at 12:15 A.M., Jared Branfman passed away
after a long, arduous, and heroic battle with cancer.
He was a true fighter with a sensitive soul and loving heart.
He was and always will be an inspiration in the every sense
of the word and in every facet of himself, from artist to young
man. I think we all feel the pain of losing such a young
and promising artist. To his parents, Steven & Ellen,
and his younger brother, Adam, our hearts go out to you.
We hope you can take some comfort in knowing we are all thinking
of you, grieving with you and praying for you. May his memory
be for a blessing.
