Mike began working in clay six years ago. He spent the majority of the last few years between Minnesota and Chicago, teaching classes at Terra Incognito and finishing up a BFA from St. Olaf College. He moved to Independence to become a resident artist and teacher at 323Clay. Mike works with carving and hydroaprasion relief techniques and he uses various methods of glazing to highlight the surface of the clay.
Cost is $25 per 3 hour class, to be paid in advance on a monthly basis. THere will be a class fee of $30 per month, which covers firing/glazing and a bag of clay.

The subject matter of the classes will range from technical aspects of pottery, aesthetic considerations, philosophical implications of this ancient, yet eternally new craft. Class members will be encouraged to submit their own ideas for discussion and demonstration.
In Steven's own words, the sessions will be "an ongoing exploration of topics pertinent to one's personal development as a potter/ceramic artist..." These classes will be best suited to intermediate-skill-level potters...

Tara began her career as studio potter in Kansas City, Missouri in 1999. Having acquired extensive teaching experience, she has recently begun sharing her expertise through workshop presentations in studios across the country. While emphasizing the alteration of form and the use of texture as surface design, her pieces continue to exist within the constraints of function. Tara's work can be seen in local and regional galleries and beyond.
